SHORT HIKES OR SNOW SHOEING

La Traversée de Charlevoix, the trek

Winter or summer, la Traversée de Charlevoix offers outdoor lovers its famous 105 km trek. Hiking, mountain biking or backcountry skiing this well-known traversée is done over several days. The trail is not accessible for snow shoeing.

Short hikes trails

However, for those who prefer short hikes (2 to 18 km), a network of trails is now available. Hiking or snow shoeing, it is possible to climb on top of various summits (almost 900 meters).

According to season, the cottages or cabins are used as base camp to access the most beautiful summits of Charlevoix. The trails are accessible from chalets Le Dôme and l’Eudore, L’Écureuil, La Marmotte or La Chouette. It is possible to discover a new trail each day. More trails not managed by La Traversée can also be reached from those cottages.

Acces

  • Sector Le Dôme can be reached hiking with snow shoes or skis.
  • Some trails in the sector of La Marmotte and La Chouette can be reached hiking or skiing only (no snow shoes).

Note concerning the information on distances

The distances are not absolute. They are calculated from topographic maps and data taken with a GPS or calculated wih a topowire. When calculated by a GPS, they correspond to a plane surface and do not take into account any difference in level, so there might be a slight difference with reality but they give a good idea of the difficulty of the trail.

Difference in level and total ascent two similar concept but with some difference.

Difference in level (altitude, in meters) between departure and arrival, usually the summit.

Total ascent is the cumulative sum of all the differences in level along the trail. This number takes into account all the ascent even the small ones. If, for example from departure you go up 2 meters, then go down 2 meters and then go up again 3 meters, you will get a total ascent of 5 meters. This data is not always available but gives a good idea of the difficulties on a trail.
