The rustic cabin Le Caribou is, in a way, the gateway to our magnificent trail network. You will be very close to the starting point of several highly appreciated trails, such as the Monts du Lac-à-l’Empêche and Du Four trail and the Sommets trail, to name a few.

Access

Summer
In the summer, the cabin is located 200 meters on foot from the Lac à l’Écluse parking lot.

Winter
In winter, after the first snows (sometimes from October!) the cabin is located 4 km by snowshoe or ski from the Zec des Martres reception since the road is closed to vehicles during the winter period (sometimes until the end of May!) .
Note: You must go to our reception, not the Zec, to pick up the keys (135 rang St-François, KM 10.6 on route 381).
Activities
The cabin is located near the starting point of several popular trails, such as the Mont du Four and Lac à l’Empêche trail and the Sommets trail, to name a few.
Equipment provided
- Slow combustion stove
- Firewood
- 2-burner propane stove
- Solar and propane lamps on the ground floor
- 6 foam mattresses with vinyl covers
- Table and benches
- Compostable toilet
- Shovel and axe
- Pots and pans
- Basic kitchen utensils (ladle, spatula, knife, colander, cutting board, etc.)
- Tableware: plates, bowls, cups, utensils
- Dishwashing bin
- Cleaning products (dish soap, surface disinfectant, hand sanitizer)
Each group must bring at least:
- Dish towels
- Scrubbing sponge
- Toilet paper
- Matches and fire starter or newspaper
- Sleeping bag
Important information
Outdoor fires are prohibited.
There is no running water in our cabins or shelters, but they are all located near bodies of water such as lakes, rivers, and streams. La Traversée recommends treating the water, either by filtering it, using specific disinfectant products, or boiling it for ten minutes.
