TRAIL CONDITIONS UPDATE – Wednesday, December 31, 2025
The recent snowfall added about ten centimeters across the Charlevoix Traverse, providing excellent conditions for nordic skiing. The trail will be covered, but given the current traffic, the Hautes Gorges trail at Mont Grand Fonds, as well as the Sentier de l’Orignac trail, will be traced in the coming days. The Zec des Martres sector at Hautes Gorges will be groomed by January 4, 2026.
A reminder that snowshoes are not permitted on the Traverse, but over 60 km of trails are available in the Lac à l’Écluse sector.
Refer to our Facebook and Instagram pages for images of the conditions following the recent snowfall.
➡Thru hike trail: Excellent conditions for nordic skiing with fresh snowfall. Allow extra time, as some sections of the trail will remain ungroomed for the next few days, and bring your crampons, which may be necessary for the icier sections.
➡Mont du Lac-à-l’Empêche and Du Four trails (Lac-à-L’Écluse sector day hikes): Excellent snow cover, ideal for snowshoeing. The trail to the area is accessible on skis and snowshoes from the Zec des Martres visitor centre. If the parking lot 500 m from the visitor centre is not plowed, you can park closer to the Zec visitor centre to access the area.
➡Mont du Dôme trail: Excellent snow cover, ideal for snowshoeing, with icy sections requiring crampons. The parking lot is cleared of snow.
➡Noyée trail: Excellent snow cover, ideal for nordic skiing, with icy sections requiring crampons. Snowshoeing is prohibited. Access via Chemin du Pied-des-Monts is plowed as far as Domaine du Pic-Bois, and the remaining route to the trailhead is accessible by nordic ski.
For the trails and shelters located near Lac-à-l’Écluse, remember that registration is mandatory with the ZEC des Martres, and that parking is 3.4 km from the trailhead.
